AIDAnova receives Blue Angel - eco-label now on the ship's side
AIDA Cruises has been awarded the Blue Angel, the federal government's environmental label, for the environmentally friendly ship design by AIDAnova. On 19 and 26 September 2019, in the port of Marseille, the logo of the Blue Angel was applied to the side wall of AIDAnova.
Thanks to the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG), such as on board AIDAnova, emissions of particulate matter and sulfur oxides are almost completely avoided, emissions of nitrogen oxides and CO2 emissions are reduced in a sustainable manner.
AIDA Cruises is also driving innovation in many other areas to make an active contribution to the energy transition.
In 2023, as many as 94 percent of all AIDA guests will travel on ships that can be operated entirely with low-emission liquefied natural gas or, where possible, in the harbor with green shore power.
Since 2017 AIDAsol obtains green land power in Hamburg-Altona. By the end of 2020, twelve out of fourteen AIDA ships will be able to use shore power from renewable energies. The company is ready to commence testing at the planned shore power plants in Kiel and Rostock in 2020.
In 2020, AIDAperla will be the first ship to be equipped with a battery storage system from the maritime battery manufacturer Corvus from Norway. The 300 meter long cruise ship receives a battery pack with a total output of 10 megawatt hours.
