Bestselling author Wladimir Kaminer reads aboard AIDAdiva
AIDA guests in the Caribbean will experience a mix of entertaining literature and heavenly dream islands
On AIDAdiva's current cruise from/to La Romana from November 11–25, 2017, guests have the chance to experience not only the unique diversity of the Caribbean islands, but also the literary works of bestselling author Wladimir Kaminer. The Moscow-born writer who now lives in Berlin achieved fame with his book "Russian Disco" that was made into a movie with Matthias Schweighöfer, and his "My German Jungle Book." His entertaining readings give the guests on board an in-depth taste of his humorous writing style.
Still more entertainment and exhilarating flair is provided on board by the Caribbean band, "Escape Trio" and the German comedian Dittmar Bachmann, known to TV viewers from the Quatsch Comedy Club. Guests can also look forward to many highlights on shore. AIDAdiva's 14-day cruises which operate between November 2017 and March 2018 will start from her base of La Romana in the Dominican Republic and/or Bridgetown, Barbados and will visit the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean.
In La Romana guests can walk in Christopher Columbus's footsteps and visit the lighthouse named after him, the Faro a Colón. Afterwards they will visit the ABC islands – the first stop being Aruba. All that remains there of the great gold rush of 1824 are the melting pots and furnaces, but the island has the most beautiful powder-fine sandy beaches and magnificent coastal scenery.
The cruise continues on to the "C" of the Dutch ABC islands: Curação. The island's capital, Willemstad, is a pretty place to visit with its colorful merchants' houses. The city's floating market and the colorful reef landscapes are also well worth a look. On the next day, guests get an undiluted taste of the Caribbean on the island of Bonaire: blue skies, crystal-clear water, and multicolored underwater treasures. The next port is St. George's in Grenada, followed on the following day by Kingstown in St. Vincent. This island owes its lush tropical vegetation to La Soufrière, an active volcano, whose ashes make the soil so fertile. In Barbados guests will be able to explore "Little England," also by bicycle, and see the rich heritage of some 340 years of colonial history. And they can enjoy the unforgettable experience of swimming with real sea turtles in Turtle Bay. The cruise continues on its way to Castries in St. Lucia. The cones of the two volcanoes, Petit Piton and Grand Piton, are the island's landmark, and a destination for exciting mountain hikes. The idyllic fishing village of Anse-la-Raye and spectacular Marigot Bay are also highly appealing. Guests are offered a rich contrast the following day with the two unequal halves of Guadeloupe island – the volcanic Basse-Terre, and the gentle Grande-Terre. Snorkelers and divers are welcome at the Jacques Cousteau Underwater Reserve. After that AIDAdiva will travel on to Antigua. Here guests can look at the imposing and natural "English Harbour," take a kayak tour through the tropical mangroves, or go hiking and exploring in the rainforest. After 14 days the cruise ends where it began – in the Caribbean port of La Romana in the Dominican Republic or in Bridgetown, Barbados.
